In The Know: Cape Verde Islands

The Cape Verde Islands are situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa. They consist of ten islands which all offer beautiful beaches, turquoise sea and a laid back feel. The Cape Verde Islands are pretty much undiscovered by the mass tourism crowds.

Direct flights to Sal for the resort of Santa Maria have operated from the UK for around three years now, with the recent addition flights to Boa Vista. Both islands have a real exotic feel to them. Sal has a dramatic lunar-like landscape. The main resort is Santa Maria where many people have their first taste of a holiday in Cape Verde. The town has pretty colourful house built on cobbled streets and influenced by the Portuguese settlers. The beaches offer a good range of water sports too.

Boa Vista is home to some of the best white sand beaches in the Cape Verde Islands, many of which stretch for miles and are deserted. The sand dunes and coconut trees give you a feeling of being in a tropical paradise.
