With the demise of XL Leisure Group, the third largest operator in the UK this last few days, we think it is time the UK goverment created a level playing field for all airlines, travel agents and tour operators. Tour operators who sell a flight with accommodation must be bonded with the CAA, and as a result any customer who booked via a travel agent on one of XL's brands were covered with an ATOL. Those who booked direct were not. Where is the logic in this?

If all airlines, low cost carriers such as Ryanair and Easyjet included, were bonded their would not be thousands of UK passengers worrying about getting home now! Rest assured the safest way to book is through an ATOL bonded tour operator or travel agent even if it cost's a few pounds more.....

First full year for Emirates at Newcastle

September 1st, 2008 saw the first anniversary of Emirates Airline at Newcastle International. The daily flight to Dubai has been one of Emirates most successful ever launch!

There has been over 140,000 passengers as well as 1.7m kilos of freight on the route in the last tweleve months. We wish Emirates every success with this route and hope it continues to grow in the future.

Jet2.com have announced a number of new routes from northern airports. The new routes for 2009 include Leeds Bradford to Sharm El Sheikh, Larnaca (Cyprus), Rhodes, Newcastle to Ibiza, Edinburgh to Murcia and Sardinia, Belfast to Jersey, Blackpool to Menorca and Manchester to Sardinia.

Thomas Cook & Mytravel Merger

The EC, this week approved the tie up between Thomas Cook Holidays and Mytravel Group. The new venture is expected to finalise the merger by mid June after shareholder approval. The EC's decision is likely to lead to the proposed First Choice and TUI tie up also being given the green light in early June.

Wow, we cannot believe it has been nearly six months since our last post. We have been pretty busy moving offices, updating our websites and taking bookings! Where do we start?

From 4 to 2.....

Well since our last post the travel industry has changed big style! Thomas Cook and Airtours' parent firm, Mytravel Group, announced that they were to merge to form Thomas Cook plc and form the biggest tour operation in Europe. Not wanting to be left out First Choice rang Thomson Holidays parent company, Tui and decided to merge as well, thus forming the largest operation in Europe and they will now be called Tui Travel plc. Both firms are waiting for the green light from Europe, so it should not be long before there are 2 giants and many smaller firms vying for number 3!

Resort information at the click of a mouse....

We have added some resort guides to each of our websites, and we will be constantly adding more over the coming months, and updating where and when needed.

Deals2travel.co.uk has a number of different countries and resort guides featured, from Greece through to Cuba.

Well its half term next week for the schools and the phones have not stopped ringing this week! We have booked lots of families to all sorts of places like Turkey, Majorca and Egypt.
